            Rose 1
            (haiku)

She is living verse.
Her rhyme changes constantly
in the Poet's hands.

Her affirmation
shows by the smile in her eyes;
the brush of her hand

Her rhythmic dancing
clings to him like a shadow
merging at midday.

Her kisses suggest
a caring tenderness; a
satisfied longing.

She is living verse;
euphonious sounds framed in
an autumn pallet.

    Communion 2
         (haiku)

Often when they meet
she smothers him with kisses
and steals an embrace

Then her magnetic
reach makes them one as probing
fingers find his hand.

Her gentle touch sends
warmth and acceptance, sweeping
off his dirt that day.

Her rapturous smile
rejuvenates his weary
spirit and he laughs...

They communicate
silently; not with spoken
words to misconstrue.

The Kiss 3
(tanka)

She scrawled “146”
in the summer dust, trusting
he would agree as
she thrust the parasol point
between numbers 1 and 4.

[Celebrating her
birthday, she chose the dusty
numbers carefully,
intending to be honest
but also illegible!]

His smiles affirmed her
aim, as they continued to
share the afternoon
sun by filling each other
with adventures of the day.

In their silences
he thought of years before they’d
met which didn’t compare;
which didn’t add up. He loved her
much and wished that they were one.

At their leaving, just
before each would pass what the
other passed before
they met, he kissed her and said
“Rose will you marry me?”

“And she said_______!”

Her Gift 4
(haiku)

He has been with her
four months now.  How marvelous
this gift of new life!

How sumptuous her
body's warmth at dusk and dawn;
sensuous her love.

How mysterious
her unspoken thoughts, untold
laughter and moist eyes

How affirming her
continuous touch, loving
words, unasked favors.

She exudes love; his
last love.  Together they share
in discovery.

       Like A Diamond 4
             (tanka)

She ignites his fire
with the fragrance of lilacs
in May, bouquets of
garden roses in June, sweet
Linden blossoms in July.

Her joyful spirit
surrounds him and radiates
outward like points of
"light" from multi-faceted
diamonds in dazzling sun.

Like a diamond
brilliance betrays her beauty,
hardness cements their friendship,
and timelessness reminds them
to love the other always.

At forty-seven
she celebrates marriage and
mothering, graduation
and success, living and faith,
and loving while being loved

    Second Anniversary 5
                (haiku)

If ever two were
one then surely we, he thought
mirroring her smile...

When, a breath apart,
their fingers trace familiar
contours in the night.

When during pauses
in their day, two minds unite
in "conversation."

When, amidst autumn's
splendor, two hearts entwined are
rejuvenated.

When love prevails, two
are one assuredly.  She
and he.  Surely we!

    The Serenade 6

      (haiku)

He plays a love song
with his fingers. She is flute;
her melody pure.

Once a musician,
his rustiness ended when
she accepted him.

She brings love to life
and a life of love. His love
for her unending.

Music explodes at
his hands; notes rise like incense
encompassing all!

She is flute and he
is player. Their song delights
even the robin!

Fifty 7
(tanka)

Today you leap on
fifty, swearing forty-two
but celebration
exposes the lie you placed
in the "wanteds*" to find me.

More celebration
follows a few days hence when
parchment reads "BA"
with a decade of hard work
finished!  Accolades my love.

Four children raised and
a few pets endured made you
strong and courageous.
The years brought challenges and
wisdom.  Accolades my love.

Fantasy bequeaths
our earthly life another
fifty years to love
each other best.  Till then I
love you more each passing day!

The Kiss II 8

(tanka)

Up the mountainside
they hiked destined for the top
where they planned a kiss.
With hands bridged between the two
only loose sand and rocks fell.

Near half a century
Of climbing never took her
beyond the rising
granite wall to victory
with its surprising reward.

And over half a
century he likewise failed
climbing the south slope.
However, now two were one
and they certain would succeed.

How fortunate her
birthday celebration brought
them to this sacred
place where the summit within
reach would photograph their kiss!

They navigated
round the granite wall and came
to rest on a flat
at the peak, embracing, and
pressing lips passionately,

celebrating their
climb, remembering the past
when two were not one,
when two just looked at two and
when the mountain seemed to win.

        Recompense 9

(haiku)

Nature recalls your
uterus, adds wrinkles and
serves up aching bones!

What recompense she
gives: Inner strength; beauty; no
monthly ritual?

You'd rather be free,
bearing the children chosen,
donning less makeup.

But I love you now
as forever when we met
when time was more kind.

When birthdays stopped at
forty-two and honeymoons
seemed endless. Why quit!

             My Fair Lady 10

(
haiku)

You grew your hair till
flowing strands kissed both our necks
at midnight and dawn.

The digital scale
flashing larger numbers got
your ire and the boot.

Jalen and Erik
made six grandchildren seeking
"Grandma Rose's" love.

EMSDS'
earned a thousand dollar grant
yet unemployment looms.

Amidst life's changes
birthdays are constant! Happy
fifty-third my love.

You are "loverly"
and I could not love you more
but always better!

        Spring! 11

(tanka)

Lilacs and apple
blossoms authenticate Spring
with purple hues and
sweet, mixed aromas carried
by early afternoon breeze!

Celebration at
Chanhassen with "The Music
Man." Children's gift from
another's sixtieth, in
his April of the Season.

In this setting you
become fifty-four my love;
collage of colors,
expensive perfume, cooling
breath of air to those near by.

Your look, a smile, one
kiss, a touch, one word, a pause.
Reasons for loving
you! Such bliss we might have missed,
but for a kiss you and me!

            Up North Again 12
                  (haiku)

Were relishing stark
winter's other side, where greens
mix with pink and blue.

Where optimism
leads every thought and action:
Autumn's requiem!

But brother Mike died
and Mothers dear are failing
as the season folds.

So up North we go
to some places familiar
amidst Cascade and

Lure of the Loon Lodge
staving off time to rest and
to reclaim our Spring.

In Cool air amidst
sweet blossoms we give thanks for
your job's return and

another birthday. We
celebrate fifty five years
and each other's love!
