Close-up of 1973 wine label

Rhubarb Wine Bottled in November 1973! The Watergate break-in was June 23, 1972. Vice President Spiro T. Agnew resigned October 10, 1973. President Richard M. Nixon resigned August 8, 1974. I remember listening to the Watergate hearings while bottling this wine.  I have a couple more bottles of Rhubarb and several  of Concord grape.  The wines have developed a sediment over the years. I have stored the bottles on their sides to keep the corks moist and to minimize oxidation however, when I opened a bottle of grape it  tasted more like a port wine-probably from oxidation.   Just because a wine is old does not mean it has aged well!  I keep these wines for sentimental reasons.
More Recent Winemaking: Since Retirement in 2001 I've made 7 Batches of wine with an 8th (Blackberry) in progress.  A 5 gallon batch of wine produces about 18-22 bottles (750ml each) depending on loss during racking and testing.  All of the wines except rhubarb were made using canned fruit intended for wine making.  All the wines had a final filtering to give them a polished look and all bottling was in new bottles.   I give many away as Christmas Gifts.  All who received them raved about the taste!!  (Or so they said).  One of these years, I'll try making wine using  freshly harvested grapes.
