Joseph of Arimathea, a disciple, and others remove the body of Jesus from the cross,  wrap it in linen containing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, and place His body in a new tomb.

Note: New Testament accounts of the Passion and Death of Jesus beginning with His arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane and ending with his burial are as follows:   Matthew 26: 47 through 28:61;  Mark 14:14 through 15:39; Luke 22:47 through 23:56 and John 18:1 through 19:42.

Holy Thursday 2013

Jesus celebrates his Last Supper with his 12 disciples.  Judas on the left front holds a sack of 30 pieces of silver beneath the table.  This was his reward for betraying Jesus. (Matthew 26:17-35; Mark 14:12-31; Luke 22:1-38; John 13:1 to 18:26)

Palm Sunday 2013

Jesus, on a colt enters Jerusalem for the last time, soon to be faced with His passion and death.   At this time however, He is greeted by disciples waving palms and shouting joyful praises  (Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-11;  Luke 19:28-38; John 12:12-16)

Ash Wednesday 2013

Ash Wednesday begins the Lenten season in the Catholic and other Christian churches, lasting 40 weekdays (Mon-Sat) until Easter Sunday on March 31, 2013.   The ashes placed on the forehead are a reminder that we are dust and unto dust we shall return. (Genesis 3:19).  

Lent is a time for focusing on the life and death of Jesus Christ through personal prayer, penance, repentance, selfless giving, and self-denial.  Holy Week, the last week of Lent, commemorates Jesus' Last Supper with His Apostles on Holy Thursday, His Passion and death on Good Friday, and culminates with the celebration of Jesus' resurrection from the dead on Easter Sunday.
