Lilacs in Full Bloom June 1979
By far the lilacs of spring are (to me) the most impressive flower. Their perfume permeates the air in spite of the cares and worries of the world, to sweeten all who chance to come near them. Even one aromatic molecule suffices me. But two or more may so dull my sense that I take no more notice until I realize that they're gone. Then I bemoan their absence and wait for the passing of months until they blossom again.
Two haiku from August 1979
Lilac 1
Thunderstorm hail stripped
emerging lilac blossoms
stealing part of spring.

Lilac 2
Tenacius lilacs
smashed by thunderstorm fury:
purple carpeting.
