As with Wedding Anniversaries, Humble Blogger and loving wife Rose write poems to each other for Valentine's day.  I included my poem  for 2014 (others are not suitable for this family friendly Blog!) in which I complain about the weather and having to wear a C-PAP (continuous Positive Air Pressure) mask because of the damaging effects of sleep apnea. I've been wearing it each night for 15 months.   The poem format is "Tanka" a Japanese verse form consisting of  5 lines with the 1st and 3rd consisting of 5 syllables and the rest of seven.

Polar Vortex! 

Weather announcers
blame the Polar Vortex for
our sub-zero temps
lasting days and nights with no
apparent let-up in sight!

Buried in snow, we've
lost track of birds and blossoms
and the sound of rain.
We guess Mother Nature wants
us to know who is in charge.

We lie in our warm
bed with heated mattress pad.
I in my C-PAP
mask, you nearby listening
to the machine's rhythmic hum.

Missing is that last
kiss, pillow talk, spooning, any
spontaneous moves!
Who would have guessed fate chose this
path for Valentine lovers!

But February
is here with its promise of
melting snow, bare earth,
arrival of wild things and
Spring's aromatic beauty!

Soon we'll forget the
frozen earth and "cold" beneath
our covers!  Soon we'll
remember and be grateful
we have love to celebrate!
